. BIOGRAPHY
After growing up in
New York City, I now live in "fly-over country" (aka Minnesota). The
bulk of my work is for young performers or young audiences. They
keep me honest and alternately - young and old.
I have developed
one full length play for actresses over the age of 45 (because there
is a wealth of talent and not enough venues for them) and
many short plays for performers of all ages.
When I am
not at the computer, I am working onstage with young performers.
Teens have enriched my life in so many ways and I give gratitude for
their humor, critical thinking, editing and willingness to help me
create new works for them. I am especially indebted to the teens
in my shows at Lakeshore Players, (White Bear Lake, MN) and The Phipps
Center for the Arts (Hudson, WI) who have lent me their talents in
developing my plays.

"This is an excellent teaching
play. One can picture on stage these people running around causing
havoc. This is definitely a play that could be performed to
get young people interested in Shakespeare and to introduce them to
some of his interesting characters."
Wish You Were Here
Minnesota
playwright takes top honors at Eastbound Summer 2008
Playwright Claudia
Haas of White Bear Lake, Minnesota scored top honors at Eastbound
Summer 2008 with her romanitc comedy Wish You Were Here.
Wish You Were
Here told the story of a young American woman (Shannon Bolcer) and
a French man (Michael Fortunato) who meet at twilight in a Paris park
just before the streetlamps turn on for the evening. In the
short time before she catches her flight home, the two form an imaginary
life together before they have to separate. The show was directed
by David F. Savo of Stamford.
Five plays were chosen for the program
from a field of submissions that featured Stratford's SquearWrights
playwrights' center. The playwrights were given the theme "Twin
Cities" as a basis for their shows. Wish You Were Here edged
out Going in Circles, by Jack Rushen, directed by Geoffrey Gilbert;Safe, by James McLindon, directed by Tom Rushen; Crazy Eights, by
Mark Lambeck, directed by Mallory Diedrich; and Love Among Wikiwikis,
by Steven Otfinoski, directed by Robert Watts.
Beginning in 2001, Eastbound
Theatre, a division of the Milford Fine Arts Council, has presented
its Eastbound Summer program as a part of the New England Arts &
Crafts Festival. From 2005 to present, the focus has been on
original works, with audiences voting for their favorite. Ms.
Haas becomes the first winner from outside Connecticut, joining Stratford
playwrights Mark Lambeck and Jack Rushen and Jim Gordon of Norwalk
and of Stratford as a winner of the Summer Audience Award.

"The students that make
up my small but award-winning drama troupe are giving high praise
to Ms. Claudia Haas for her play, 'The Haunting of Will Shakespeare.'
And we are most pleased with the financial success that producing
it has brought our program. In a town like Hazard, KY, with a population
of just around 5,000 people, to consistently increase our budget through
ticket sales is a usual struggle, but not after producing Ms. Haas'
work. We made enough from this weekend's four shows to fully fund
next Fall's productions. On behalf of The Commodore Players, we would
like to personally say to Ms. Haas, "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you"
for such a charming, imaginative play that allows for creative but
cost effective ideas for set and costuming.
